Look Good For Yourself, Not Her

This morning, I saw a poster advertising some sort of treatment for chapped, dry, black lips. The treatment promised pink lips in 7 days. Some will realise that this is targeted to men. It is believed that pink lips are attractive on men, and probably help guys get more kisses, I guess so. I’ve been told by some I have pink lips. I don’t know how true that is, since I’m colour blind, and I’m too busy dealing with pimples to care for lip colour.

I once wrote an article condemning women for using excess makeup to turn themselves into something else, just to be attractive to guys. Now it’s the guys turn. We ought to evaluate the fashion and style choices we make. I firmly believe that it makes no sense to dress for the pleasure of the opposite sex. Some say it’s natural instinct, but not all things natural are good, like catching the flu. When you subject your fashion choices to the whims of others, you not only sacrifice your right to freedom of self-expression on the altar of conformity to unstable standards, you become like a ship with no sail, its course directed by the temper of wind and sea, destined to run aground on a deserted island.

When you decide to look good, don’t do it because you want someone to give you a compliment, or so that pretty girl will notice you. Do it for your confidence, self-esteem, and ego.

By the way, for pink lips, you can brush your lips with a soft toothbrush regularly. What makes lips dark is the old skin left on the surface.

How to Identify a 100-Level OAU Student

It’s second semester and those “bloody freshers” have started adapting to the system, and it’s becoming a bit hard to distinguish them from the dyed-in-the-wool stallite. So we put together this one to remind us of those things that make these OAU babes stand out.

1.

image

One thing is their backpack. Chai! I remember my own days, taking every notebook and textbook I owned, as if I would read all of them that day. It’s amazing how our spines survived that stage.

2.Another thing is their dedication, their seriousness, their commitment, their zeal…for special electives. The way these ones attend classes, you’ll think it’s a four-unit core course, unlike us stallites who even forget the special electives we select at times. By the way, who has an idea when SEP and SEH will have test? Please beep me.

3.

image

Amongst the ladies, there is this morbid fear of Awo Hall. I mean, we’re not that bad, are we? A little teasing now and then hasn’t killed anybody…yet. I once had to pretend to be sick to get one to visit me. Funky, you know yourself.

4.

image

Another unique thing is their level of political consciousness. Unlike we stallites who have seen disappointing leaders come and go, and become disenchanted, these neophytes who haven’t been ‘slyed’ before seem to be the engine of most campaigns. This semester will definitely not be an exception.

That’s it guys, for some of the most outstanding traits of OAU freshmen. Next time, we’ll be discussing stalites. In the meantime, do you know other traits we missed. Hit us up on social media and drop your comments. Peace, y’all.

OAU Wins Another Quiz and Debate Competition

image

In the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) 10th Anniversary Quiz and Debate Competition, OAU came tops.

The school was represented by Agunbiade Akintunde and Adeniyi Ayomiposi, 200-level and 100-level law students respectively. The event, which took place on the 23rd of the month, was graced by four participating universities, the host included, namely TASUED, OAU, OOU (Olabisi Onabanjo University), and BUT(Bells University of Technology). Each school had two representatives. There were two knockout rounds of quizzes on topics ranging from mathematics, science, current affairs, and sports. The final round was an impromptu debate between four contenders; two from OAU, one from TASUED, and one from BUT. The competition ended with the OAU contestants clinching first and fourth position, BUT coming second, and TASUED coming third.

They came home with the trophy and a handsome cash prize. Here from OAUChristians.com, we congratulate their feat and look forward to  their title defence next year.

Top Five Relationship Spots in OAU

We did a list of the most popular love-spots in OAU and here you have them!

ANGLOMOZ:
As the name implies, this is the popular car park where Angola and Mozambique Halls meet. It is usual to see guys and ladies standing in groups and talking about everything you cannot particularly decipher. It’s also a point for young lovers who are trying to get to know each other and are not willing to walk as far as academics to meet. Since Moz is majorly for 100level students, it is not unusual to sight older guys coming around to pick up young, naive girls to town.

MOTION GROUND:
Is it the solitude that comes with it? Or the fact that it is often dark at night? Or that people don’t really pass this route once it’s dark? Perhaps it’s because the scenery of Road 1 is so romantic. One cannot simply get the answer. Motion Ground is frequently used by couples who either want to escape the prying eyes of passers-by or who simply want some private time to themselves.

NEW BUKA:
New Bukateria which is colloquially known as “New Buka” has become one of the chilling spots for people, ranging from people going to drink to people taking their partners out or to people with the intention to lavish money to impress someone of the opposite sex. Apart from Rotunda, Jo’s Indulge, Spices, Guess, Banwill are there for guys who are willing to treat their ladies to a special night. These places can be used at any time.

ARCHI LOVE GARDEN:
At the front of the Department of Architecture is a garden of flowers and leaves which is on a beautiful structure. Couples tend to flock there almost for the same reason Motion Ground is visited. The staircase there is hardly used and so nobody can come to interrupt a romantic evening.

SPORTS COMPLEX :
The last, but not the least spot is Sports Complex. Even though this venue is popularly used by fellowships and praying groups, some couples still find it a romantic spot.

5 Types of People You’ll meet in a Typical OAU Hostel

Hi, so I made a list of the kinds of people you’ll most likely meet in an OAU hostel. I know they are much more than this, so kindly leave your comments after reading.

The Pastors:
These ones seem to study their Bibles more than their textbooks. They are ever ready to preach to you whenever you seem idle. I personally have spent long hours in Awo cafe, just to avoid them. If you are unlucky to share the room with more than one, take my advice, get yourself a good headset or earphones.

The Akada:
These group leaves the room first and returns last. He doesn’t have time for the rest of you. His only business in the room is to eat, cook, sleep, no interactions. To even know his name takes a special effort. But in most cases, he is well-respected, not because of his perceived intelligence, but the lack of familiarity. If you doubt me, try sleeping on his bed and leave it rumpled.

The Donors:
These ones ehn, are just somehow. It seems they came with the intent of living off others for a token. They are the ones who will donate a cup of rice, a cup of beans, or a loaf of bread, for a share of the food. Seems fair, doesn’t it? That’s until they go for a second round. In the case of a friend of mine, guess what the donor offered? Curry!

The Debaters:
If you cherish your piece and quiet, stay away from these ones, for where two or three are gathered, all hell shall be let loose. I am a proud card-carrying member of this club. We are always ready to argue, be it 6am, with toothbrushes in our mouth, or in the hot afternoon, when you’re trying to take a nap. We can argue anything from politics, to girlfriends, down to underwear ownership. Dear girls, we are also those creative guys who describe you with such unique terms anytime you cross our domain.

The Traders:
This category of people can sell anything irrespective of their department. It is as bad as they can sell themselves just to get what you want. The good thing about rooming with one of these people is the fact that you can get something they’re selling for a ridiculously low price. Trust me, been there, done that.

Rich kids:
This is the friend of everybody on that block. This is that boy in Angola that brings a pack of bottled water when coming to school and does not buy sachet water. This is the girl that vamps up her corner in Moz so that it can be as good as her room at home. They’re willing to spend as much as they want for comfort.

Daddy’s/mummy’s girl:
This category of people will be so quick to call their parents to report anything, be it where a mosquito bit them or how a roommate shouted at them. You do not want to cross paths with them because “they will call their mummy or tell Daddy”.

How To Become A Christian In OAU

OAU has to be one of the leading universities in Nigeria where you can easily become a christian whether by force or by fire or by water. Here are some of the ways people become christians in OAU:

a-christian

  1. Just wake up by 5am or so one morning-No, you don’t need to wake up yourself, you will be awoken with, “Good morning, my sisters/brothers, I am here to tell you that Jesus is coming soon. Give your life to Christ before it is too late”. Even though I do not have a statistics for how many become christians through this method, this definitely has to be one way to become a christian in OAU.

  2. Find time and go to Sports complex, especially in the evening/night. The way you will see people praying about their lives, academics, future husband or wife for hours will make you think of becoming a Christian or becoming a full-time christian.

Tip: If you do not usually have the motivation to pray often, just go to Sports every morning or night, they will not teach you before motivation comes.

  1. Just stay in your room on a sunday morning and be watching movies. Someone will come somehow-somehow and invite you to church. If you don’t have anybody invite you to church on a sunday when you are sleeping idly, my dear, it’s time to change your hostel or your room.

  2. Be walking jejely on your own. From nowhere, someone will just appear to you like an angel and tell you,”Good evening, brother/sister, Are you born again?”.

  3. Go to Academics day or night to read. One uncle or aunty from nowhere would just walk up to the front and start preaching. “Brother, sister, please can I have one minute of your time?” and they’ll eventually spend like 30 minutes. Sigh

What other ways can one become a christian in OAU? Oyah, let us know via the comments box.
