Maintaining A Great Prayer Life In Spite Of Your Busy Schedule

Very often we get so busy and over burdened with activities that we sometimes may not be able to pray. Is God pleased with the lack of communication with His children? Obviously not. But have we over burdened ourselves with the fear that the lack of prayer has severed our ties with our Creator? Sometimes.

Our prayer life is as essential as any other aspect of our Christianity and Paul in his epistle to the Thessalonians admonished them to pray ceaselessly but what do we do when we find ourselves too busy to pray as we ought to?

God Assigned Prayer Time?

If you have problems with the time you ought to be praying you must realise that it’s we humans who stipulated the time of our prayers. Where and when you pray does not affect God’s listening ears. You don’t pray at 5AM as you should doesn’t mean you can’t pray at 7.

Get A Prayer Aid

Sometimes it is not the busy schedule that keeps us from praying, it is our inability to decide what to pray on. Get a prayer aid to assist you in reforming your prayer life. An interesting and helpful prayer aid is provided in the link below. naijachristians.com/never-stop-praying-need-a-praying-aid-for-2015/

Get A Prayer Partner

Iron sharpeneth iron, a declining prayer life is better restored with a stronger partner. You get one with whom you can share your fears and pains in order to overcome them and you can even tap into the depth of your partner’s experience to become a better person.

Plan

No matter how hooked we are, however extremely busy we think we are, there is the place of planning, when we plan we learn to push through to achieve what we have planned. Prioritizing prayer places it in the fore of our activities, so no matter the tightness of our schedule, we will pick out the time we have to pray.

Prayer is the basic communication with God, keep a fervent prayer,  keep a strong bond with God. I Thess. 5:17

Great Ife Students’ Union Launches First Newspaper

There has been several rumours and plans concerning the official Newspaper of The Great Ife Students Union but they all have been just rumours or just plans as the case may be… until now.

At the beginning of this month, the Students Union of Obafemi Awolowo University under the leadership of Omotayo Akande officially launched the Union’s First Newspaper “Union Parrots”. The newspaper was launched in the presence of the Association of Campus Journalist and the Students Union Executives.

The Union Parrot is hoped to be as effective as other press bodies currently pervading the school; we do hope this won’t be the first and last edition. You can get a copy from the Students’ Union Building for 50 naira.

Top 5 Things OAU Students Do During Their Semester Break

The Semester is over yeah? It feels really good to be done with the exams. So we compiled a list of what most OAU students usually do with their semester break. To start with, this time there are only two types of OAU students:

  • Those who are on campus and;
  • Those who are not.

On campus or not, this is the ‘me’ period for all OAU students. We individually decide what we will do doing this holiday, well.. except for some finalists who need to face their projects. 😛

Now check out #TheList of what an average OAU Student does while on semester break:

  1. Skill Acquisition

skill-acquisition-programme

Quite a number of students will take up a skill acquisition programme (Freshers and finalists, most often). They’ll spend hours and hours learning Web designing, Graphics designing, Public speaking, Bead making and so on. The list is actually endless.

  1. Having fun, socializing etc.

You see these ones ehhn, they will find every way to have fun like going on road trips and hangouts. These are the ones that will not let us rest, they will just be updating their BBM and Whatsapp status like every other day and you will be seeing pms likes “Chilling in Lagere”, #PartyThingsTonight, #HangingOutWithRihanna. Duhh uhh… Moving on..

  1. Watching movies

download (40)

Seriously, like almost everyone belongs to this category, especially those that have been on a Movie-fast all semester. Empire, Scandal, Suite, Mission Impossible 5, Koto Aye (Season 7)… name them; This list is also endless. And with the likes of Wole Music on Campus, sigh.. let’s just move on

  1. Industrial Attachment (IT):

Yea, the Tech students…. and some few others. This category is actually boring and you actually have to pity those who fall here but please, CGPA things.

  1. Finishing Next Semester’s syllabus:

This is the intriguing one. A number of “Igi Iwe”, “Iwe-labi”, “Efiwe” and “Bookworm” would have started reading for next semester’s courses even before it begins. These ones don’t go home, if you mistakenly visit school during the break, you’ll see them in lecture theatres…Reading like their lives depend on it

What did we leave out? What are the other things OAU students do during their semester break? Let us know via the comment section.

When you know You cannot remain the same

Something I have come to realize about humans is that no matter how comfortable we are with anything, there comes a point in time when we have no choice than to evolve… For better or for worse. Those changes may come as a result of too much or not enough pleasure at what we are doing, while sometimes changes occur because we have no choice.

Change, evolution, transformation, give it whatever name you wish, it occurs at virtually every stage and point of our lives; at that point in time when we feel uncomfortable with our current situation, or even when we don’t want change but we can’t just stop it because there is no way we can actually reverse it.

I still do not understand the mechanic behind change but one thing is clear, it happens to everything that has breathe and probably non living things too and it has to happen, though it might be retarded sometimes. The cycle in insect, birds or even maturity in humans they are all change; sometimes we don’t trigger them, we experience them, the right things come in place and the process has started with or without your assent, that’s the point when you know that you can do certain things already, that you ought to be your own man, you ought to be a father already, you might not have the external pointer like your friends doing those things or someone telling you what time it is in your life, the awareness just come and you know for sure it’s time to change

The Demeaning Level of Active Female Participation in Politics On OAU Campus

As a strong adherent of Feminism, I must say that I am extremely disappointed at the level of female Political  participation on OAU campus. In fact it’s clear that while the male folk on OAU campus are actually gaining ground in virtually all spheres of student culture it is almost a contrast with the females which is extremely disheartening as it seems they have left a large number of things that actually involve students interests to the male.

How is it that the male are left to dominate the various levels of student representation on campus? Why is there a shortage even at the faculty level which is meant to have an even level of representatives or perhaps a larger number of females since the males have actually taken to the SRC, who would believe that there are just 20 females of the 150 representatives we have in the SRC. What impact can just 20 make against 130 egoist?

I even noticed that in the judicial Council where there are 12 members only two are females  Why can’t the ladies on OAU campus just show interest in important things like justice? Is it fear? What is there to scare you in representing students and granting them Justice? I even thought it might be due to Academic Activities but research has show that females have more assimilative capabilities than males thus they are sounder academically.

I might be getting on the bad side of the guys but the truth remains that both genders are equal and none should be bypassed or overlooked at any point. The percentage of female participation in politics on campus is extremely low and the females are to be blamed for it while the entire population suffers its result. The males in all spheres of Students Representation are making decisions they believe to be right yet the adverse effect is felt, until someone with another point of view shows them the way they don’t know any better and only a female can do that. Yes to Gender Equality.

Is God A Feminist?

Frankly, being a feminist helps you see things in ways machist and egoist wouldn’t,  it actually allows you see things the way they really are, especially without prejudice of any sort.  So thinking about God as a Feminist sounds great but as awesomeness as it would be to Him on our team, I am utterly sure God is not a Feminist but He is not one for Gender inequality either. I am not sure how well this sounds but God not being a Feminist doesn’t destabilize the fact that No gender supersedes the other. As a friend of mine would say “We are not even sure that God is male”

For certainty and to be on the safer side, I made enquiries from some friends about God being a Feminist, and  one specifically told me that the fact that God created man first means He is totally adverse to Feminism but as I was taught in High School, when God said “Let us make man in Our own Image” He didn’t mean the male human alone He meant Human Being and we can only assume that God created man first because God is possibly male. The Bible records that God created the woman as a helper to the Man but that doesn’t make the  woman inferior, rather it means God stipulated responsibilities to each gender according to each gender according to their capabilities and I believe if a woman finds herself capable of being anything other than a housekeeper or a man’s helper, God would definitely not object,  while being a Shepherd is for the men God  didn’t object to Rachel’s decision to lead her father’s sheep to the water hole, and He made Deborah a Judge, I guess that used to be a responsibility for men, if God allowed those Women male responsibilities and didn’t strike them down I wonder why some men adhere strongly to the idea of a woman’s education ending in the kitchen.

As stated earlier, God not being a Feminist doesn’t make any gender inferior to the other and as a matter of fact while I do not support the notion of “what a man can do a woman can do better” I believe God created all humans equally and expects us to work in that equality.

OAU: Students’ Congress Validates Hon Seun As Secretary General

The much anticipated student Union Congress held on Tuesday 16th June, 2015. Students converging at the Afrika Amphitheater for the Congress were already debating on issues likely to be discussed at the Congress and the enthusiasm remains indescribable .

The Congress which was presided over by the President the union Akande Tayo a.k.a TY discussed various matters that affecting the generality of students ranging from the state of the Union to the issue of mass failure, student welfare and reinstatement of OAU 6. And submissions were taken from the students.

However one issue that really captured the attention and response of most people in attendance was the issue of The Petition forwarded by Ibiyemi one of the aspirants for the position of the General Secretary Hon. Seun regarding the authenticity of his ascent into the position he was voted into.

Ibiyemi and Hon. Seun were allowed to state their case before submissions were accepted from the attentive audience. Tents were literally pitched on both sides when submissions were accepted. Claims and counterclaims were picked from the constitution and a stalemate was in view until the submissions were weigh.

The Congress however agreed that Hon. Seun’s CGPA does nothing to his capability to handle the position he was voted into. The odds certainly fell in Hon. Seun’s favour as the Congress unanimously validated him as the General Secretary.

The minority who were not pleased with the outcome of the Congress have however requested that the Electoral Commission that certified Hon.Seun fit to contest the election despite his CGPA be sanctioned.

In his appreciation to the Congress, Hon. Seun promised to serve the Union with truth and justice for the unmerited love shown towards him by the Congress.

OP-ED: Forgetting God by Irawo Omosefunmi

It isn’t really impossible to forget God, I did. This is not about rejecting God’s existence, it is about accepting his place as creator but leaving Him out of every other thing. God is Supreme and contrary to the belief of His seat in the skies, His throne is actually meant to be in our hearts.
Well, here I am a very comfortable young man, addictive worker, and bountifully rewarded, but I have always had something missing, something from deep within something I used to have… It is just gone.

I am forgetting how it is to have a connection with God. Maybe I have even forgotten, while those we got born again at the same time were moving forward in the faith, I was stuck with morality, to be busy to get any better, I am a career person, My current state is enough prove of that. All the while my peers were attending church services, I was reading, the major thing in my life was my education. Eve my friends had their slots in my schemes but God didn’t. I loved Sunday services, worship session was always my favorite part of Sunday services but every other part was a bore and an extra burden to me, I choose to do the only thing I knew to do best ; choose the more paramount one, my education.

Now I feel like I had always been wrong, there’s this large hole in me seeking to be filled, the hole my education has always filled, now I need a guide, a shield and a helper, looks like God alone fits in there.

How do I go about it? My life has always been a routine and the only things on my schedule are work, friends and family. How do I start this journey back to my Creator
